Zen Harmony Diving

The fundamental challenge of being an effective, efficient, and safe scuba diver entails first and foremost, the practice of controlling the breath. This is critical in creating a tranquil, beautiful underwater experience where safely and comfort come first. Underwater, effective breathing creates a meditative state, relaxing the mind and body while creating better balance and buoyancy and a more enjoyable experience for the diver.

Through breath control, divers can float and swim easier – much like millions of marine species. Diving encourages the diver to enter a moving meditative state because the diver can float weightlessly and silently, while only focusing on the breath. Proper, efficient breathing is the bases for divers to maintain efficient buoyancy, better air consumption, and remaining calm and safe in potentially stressful situations.

Not only does more oxygen benefit the body and mind through deep breathing, but it also creates a meditative state in which the entire body can relax and be present in the moment. During a dive, divers become one with their breath, body, and environment – a situation which parallels meditating on land. Scuba diving brings meditation off land and into the water but does not enable divers to focus awareness on breathing through meditative and visualization techniques. These are important because they increase consciousness and control of the body, thus promoting relaxation and reducing stress. Breathing correctly underwater balances the mind and body allowing a calm, relaxed state in which divers can also forget their problems and stresses in life.
